13.10.2017

Industry body, Subsea UK has issued a final call for entries ahead of its prestigious 2018 business awards. The awards recognise companies and individuals who are leading the way in Britain’s £9billion subsea sector.

Entries are being sought for the subsea company of the year (large and small), the most promising young person in the sector, outstanding contribution by an individual to the industry and emerging enterprise.

The awards will also recognise achievements and innovations in technology, safety and exports.

Nominations can be made online via www.subseaexpo.com by Friday 3rd November.

An independent judging panel of industry leaders will score each entry according to the agreed criteria and the shortlist of finalists will be announced in January 2018.

Accolades will be presented at a gala dinner, organised by Subsea UK on 8th February during Subsea Expo, Europe’s largest subsea conference and exhibition.

Several hundred business leaders are expected to attend the dinner that celebrates the hard work and outstanding achievements generated across the industry over the past twelve months.

Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK, said: “The UK is without a doubt the global subsea centre of excellence and despite the ongoing challenges, the sector has continued to demonstrate resilience. That’s why it’s more important than ever that we recognise and reward those who are ensuring the subsea sector continues to exploit opportunities, innovate, export, and develop its young people.”

Last year’s dinner, attended by over 600 guests from across the international energy industry, saw Hydro Group named Company of the Year and Ian Donald of Enpro was named the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award.

Proserv won the award for innovation & technology; while Aidan O’Sullivan of Universal Pegasus, scooped the award for young emerging talent. EC-OG was crowned the Small Company of the Year and The Underwater Centre won the Innovation for Safety award. The global exports award went to JDR Cable Systems for its rapid expansion into key international markets.

Subsea UK member, Richard Knox, managing director of EC-OG commented: “Being part of the Subsea UK Awards was beneficial to EC-OG at a time when we were looking to raise our profile. Our nomination for the Innovation and Technology award really emphasised our successes and we were able to gain more client engagement in the industry as a result. I would encourage any company to get involved as we saw tangible benefits from being involved. The application process is simple, and there are categories to suit all.”

Carl Pilmer, global sales director at JDR Cables added: “We made a conscious decision some years ago to be recognised as a world leader in the supply of umbilical and cable solutions. Winning the Global Exports award was seen as recognition throughout the industry for achieving excellence in this criteria. We are proud to display the award throughout our facilities across the world and our customers’ appreciate that they are working with a company that is proficient in supplying and meeting their global demands.”

With the theme ‘Facing the Future’, Subsea Expo 2018, which will be held at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre from 7-9th February, will look at what must be done to reinvent the industry in a new reality.
