Join Jim McFarlane, President, ISE at his workshop - "The Evolution of Subsea Vehicles" at the OCEANS '15 MTS/IEEE CONFERENCE Gaylord National Resort & Convention Centre, National Harbor, Maryland on Monday, October 19, 2015 - 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Jim McFarlane, a true pioneer in subsea vehicle development will discuss how subsea systems - starting with the manned submersible in the 1960's - made their way into the offshore petroleum market, followed closely by ROVs in the 1970's and AUVs in the 1980's. subsequent markets were infiltrated with robotic systems that answered the demand, increased the safety, and still answer each market's technical and challenging requirements today. Field work and discoveries are also covered, including such experiences and the Dive of the Trieste by Jacques Piccard, and Jim's own responsibilities behind the recovery of Pisces III and its crew, just to name a couple.

Jim will continue his discussion with the introduction of tethered vehicles, and the development of some of the military's MCM systems. The section on ROV uses covers swath imaging, salvage, science applications, maintenance and survey.

Leading the only team that has developed and performed autonomous vehicle operations under the Arctic ice, Jim will describe the unique challenges and technical outcomes of the Theseus AUV, as well as subsequent outcomes by ISE's Arctic Explorer AUV. The evolution of these subsea developments including the physics, design parameters and other critical decisions behind what capabilities there are today is extensively described in this comprehensive workshop.

If you have already registered for the conference and would like to add a Workshop, please email OCEANS '15 Registration at oceansreg@ieee.org.
