HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco Announces a Quarter of the Ocean Now Mapped

An additional 5.4 million square kilometres of new data - equating to an area twice the size of Argentina - has been added to the definitive map of the world’s ocean floor, with 24.9 per cent of the seabed now mapped. The latest figure was announced by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco during the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Assembly, currently taking place in Monaco. Formed by the representatives of its 98 Member States and Observers, the Assembly meets triannually to discuss new developments in technical standards, ocean mapping and agree on resolutions to guide activities.

Invited by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) to demonstrate the most modern hydro-oceanographic technologies during the celebrations marking the 100 years of existence of the international organization, iXblue demonstrated its DriX Unmanned Surface Vessel, in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco, Dr. Mathias Jonas, IHO Secretary-General, Mr. Laurent Kerléguer, Director General of the French Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (Shom), and Amb. Peter Thomson, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean.

Sonardyne delivers collision avoidance sonar to MARSS Group for new private vessel

Maritime security company, Sonardyne International Ltd., UK, has announced that it has supplied forward-looking sonar technology to MARSS Group of Monaco for a 120 metre-plus private vessel that was recently delivered to its new owner in Europe. The NOAS (Navigation and Obstacle Avoidance Sonar) system was specified for the unnamed vessel to allow it to explore remote, poorly charted places with the assurance that potentially hazardous underwater obstacles can be identified and avoided. The contract also included the supply of Sonardyne’s market-leading diver detection sonar, Sentinel. This complements the NOAS installation to enable the detection of underwater intruders approaching the vessel when stationary.

U-Boat Worx revealed their new Super Yacht Sub 3, a luxury 3-seat submersible specially designed for super yachts. The new Super Yacht Sub 3 is the first of a range of submersibles for super yachts that also includes the High-Performance Sport Sub 2. This is the first public appearance of the Super Yacht Sub 3 production model, which was announced exactly one year ago.

The Super Yacht Sub 3 is to make its world premier at the Monaco Yacht Show from the 23rd to the 26th of September. U-Boat Worx, the world’s leading submersible manufacturer, is to showcase this first purposely designed 3-person luxury private submersible for super yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show 2015.
