Subsea UK’s flagship conference – final call for papers

Industry experts are being urged by Subsea UK to showcase the most advanced technologies and lead discussions on the current and future subsea challenges at next year’s flagship event, Subsea Expo.

The 13th annual conference, which takes place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre from 7-9th February 2018, will examine and debate key industry topics including global markets, ROV developments, subsea innovation and offshore renewables.

This year’s theme ‘Facing the Future’ will look at what must be done to reinvent the industry in a new reality. Industry body, Subsea UK is therefore calling for speakers to step up to the plate and discuss how businesses are working through the challenges by being smarter, using new models for contracting and operating, through increased use of automation and new technology, as well as exporting and diversifying.

Nearly 5,000 visitors from around the world took part in this year’s flagship event. The 2018 exhibition is an opportunity for those in the industry to showcase new products, introduce different approaches and make their voice heard.

Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK, said: “We can see some initial signs of recovery starting to emerge, through a continued focus on MER UK, and exports will increase as confidence returns in the global market. We must be patient, however, as this will not be a quick process. We must also accept that decommissioning is proving to be an essential component of the suite of subsea activity.

“The UK is without a doubt the subsea centre of excellence on the world stage, and there remains a bounty of opportunities available across several diverse sectors and emerging markets. It is important that we build resilience into our sector and avoid being over dependent on oil and gas, building instead towards a diverse energy mix. This call for diversification has been largely embraced by the subsea sector but there is more work to be done, with renewables maturing steadily, and wave & tidal beginning to emerge as a real growth opportunity in the future energy mix.

“Our upcoming Subsea Expo conference seeks to explore these challenges and as ever, provides the ideal platform to showcase the most advanced technologies and springboard them to market. I would encourage individuals and companies to submit their abstracts early as we always have a high standard of submissions.”

With over 150 exhibitors expected at Subsea 2018, the event also provides an excellent networking opportunity. The deadline for speaker submissions is 10th October 2017. For more information go to: www.subseaexpo.com.

Taking place during the week of Subsea Expo, the Subsea UK Awards, the industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony, will celebrate the achievements and innovations of both individuals and companies alike.
