A Life-Raft in Stormy Waters: Investing in people through collaboration during the downturn

08.07.2015
As we begin to enter Q3, the seismic waves of the last year’s oil downturn are still reverberating beneath the crust of the offshore industry. With companies facing administration, “there is no one silver bullet,” as Gordon Colborn from PwC puts it, “that can solve the range of issues currently facing the oil and gas industry.” However, as we prepare for the currents of the summer, Atlas’ belief in “when one door closes, another one opens” has started to resurface from the depths.

Anchored by ACS
With this in mind and as one of our core values, our goal to “Invest in People” continues to expand throughout our network. Through greater collaboration with our third party suppliers and partners, the uncertainty of this bleak period has begun to waver, through the support of these long-standing relationships.

One of those support systems is anchored through the Atlas Competency scheme (ACS). The need for personnel to demonstrate competence has now become a pre-requisite for all areas across the global offshore sector. The ACS endeavors to meet this increased demand through the organisation of training courses with our training partner EIVA, among others.

The most recent of these courses, an Assessor Course and Internal Verifier Courses, ensures that all candidates were trained and qualified in competency management procedures. Following the guidelines of IMCA, all candidates were registered into MTCS’ Competence Management scheme and will allow further progression through IMCA’s grading system.

Through the ACS we continue to invest in offshore personnel and support our clients with a safe, reliable and competent workforce.

Expanding our Horizons
Alongside the latest developments in ACS, the opening of our new office in Lowestoft, has proven to be a success for the Offshore Wind, ROV, Inspection and Diving personnel that have been working through this office on the East coast.

With our desire to develop and maintain key skills and experience within our offices, we have the pleasure of introducing our newest Account Manager of the Lowestoft team, Lindsay Farman.

For the last six years, Lindsay has worked in various roles throughout the offshore sector and brings a wealth of experience in crewing, Ship to Ship operations and logistics for Offshore Survey, ROV, Diving, Riggers and Marine Personnel.

“I’m really pleased to be joining Atlas Professionals,” says Lindsay, “I look forward to the new challenge of developing Atlas’ branch in Lowestoft and working alongside Tonia Weldon and Rosie Parr on future projects within Offshore Wind and ROV.”

To support our Offshore Survey and ROV operations in the Asia-Pacific region, we welcome Personnel Coordinator Yana Yusoff to our Singapore office. Working closely with the UK offices, she will continue to support local clients and contractors in their day to day needs.

Yana has previous experience with UTEC Survey in 2010 and progressed into becoming Operations Assistant at the company. After leaving UTEC, she joined Hallin Marine as a Crewing and Logistics Executive.

“I’m very happy to be given the opportunity to join the ROV and Survey team,” says Yana, “I am looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

We wish them both the best of luck in their new roles and welcome them to the Atlas team.

Weathering the Storm
As we begin to pass the eye of the storm, Atlas’ life-raft of support continues to expand during this turbulent time. We may not have the ‘silver bullet’ yet, but through our long-lasting relationships we will continue to build a strong and sustainable company that can weather the storm and support the industry when it calls for us.
