MTS and MATE are joining forces

18.10.2022
MTS and MATE II – the managing organization behind the MATE Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Competition – are joining forces! With a focus on our shared mission of fostering the next generation of ocean leaders, this collaboration will serve to advance both STEM education and cutting-edge technologies to solve global issues.

Through an integration of MATE II into MTS, we will be able to expand our efforts to raise awareness about the importance of marine technology, lower the barriers of entry to underwater robotics and related industries, support future leaders, and help students develop the confidence and skills needed to carry these fields into the future.

For MATE, this announcement marks a homecoming; the competition was created in 2001 in partnership with the MTS ROV Committee as a workforce development platform for the offshore maritime industry. MATE has evolved and expanded over the years, but the focus on inspiring and developing the next generation of ocean professionals remains at the core of the competition.

Subject to the receipt of regulatory approvals, we expect to integrate MATE as a division within MTS by summer 2023. We are fully committed to maintaining the quality and culture of the MATE ROV competition and we are thrilled that MATE co-founder and MTS Fellow, Jill Zande, will join MTS as the Executive Director of MATE.
