Fugro Secures Significant Marine Survey Contract on INPEX’s Abadi LNG and Carbon Capture and Storage Project

Fugro will perform geophysical and geotechnical surveys needed to support front-end engineering design for offshore production facilities, the submarine pipeline to the onshore LNG terminal and CO2 injection infrastructure. Geo-data will be acquired using Fugro’s deepwater autonomous underwater vehicle Echo Surveyor 8 and a robotic seafloor drill, deployed from Indonesian support vessels. Fieldwork is expected to start in the second quarter of 2024.

East Coast Cluster Selected as one of the UK’s First two Carbon Capture and Storage Projects

Decision by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is a major step in delivering the UK’s ambition of the first net zero industrial cluster by 2040. A collaboration between Northern Endurance Partnership, Net Zero Teesside and Zero Carbon Humber, the East Coast Cluster aims to remove nearly 50% of all UK Industrial cluster CO2 emissions. By deploying CCUS across the Humber and Teesside, the East Coast Cluster aims to create and support an average of 25,000 jobs per year between 2023 and 2050.

Equinor has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft to explore ways to support the Northern Lights carbon capture and storage (CCS) project as a technology partner. Microsoft will explore using the project to enable the transportation and storage of captured CO2 . Equinor is developing the project together with Shell and Total as equal partners.

Historic Investment Decision for Transport and Storage of CO2

Equinor, Shell and Total have decided to invest in the Northern Lights project in Norway's first exploitation licence for CO₂ storage on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Plans for development and operation have been handed over to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
