Noble Globetrotter I upgraded to latest Sonardyne DP reference technology

Leading offshore drilling contractor, Noble Corporation plc, has selected acoustically-aided inertial navigation technology from Sonardyne Inc., Houston, for its ultra-deep water drillship Noble Globetrotter I. The Marksman DP-INS system is being used to provide a high integrity, independent subsea position reference for the vessel’s GE DP3 dynamic positioning (DP) system as it drills exploration wells in water depths up to 10,000 feet.

OTC 2017: Ampelmann introduces S-type Walk-to-Work system for the crew change market

Continuous, safe, lightweight, low power system is 30% more cost effective than helicopters. Ampelmann has designed its latest access system, the S-type, as a cost effective and safe option in the transportation of workers and luggage to and from offshore platforms. The company, a leader in the provision of safe offshore access to the energy industry, is launching the new Walk-to-Work system as an alternative to using helicopters or baskets. In total, the cost of using the system will be around 30% cheaper than helicopters. The S-type builds on Ampelmann’s track-record of innovative design by incorporating a lightweight system that uses a low amount of energy to operate.

Sonardyne provides subsea navigation for McDermott International Inc. pipelay vessel LV 108

Sonardyne Inc., Houston, today announced it has supplied acoustically-aided inertial navigation technology to offshore engineering, procurement, construction and installation company, McDermott International, Inc., for its Lay Vessel 108 (LV 108). The Ranger 2 Pro DP-INS system, the highest specification available from Sonardyne, is being used to support touchdown monitoring surveys of submarine cables, umbilicals and pipelines and as an independent position reference for the LV 108’s Kongsberg dynamic positioning (DP) system.
