The Marine Environmental and Hazard Response unit of Haida Gwaii has acquired the first-ever Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) within the Canadian Coast Guard. This groundbreaking achievement culminates two years of dedicated effort, innovation, and collaboration between Shift Coastal Technologies, a leader in Marine autonomous systems, and the Canadian Coast Guard’s Marty Rogers, Chief of Autonomous Systems.

Kongsberg Discovery is excited to announce another successful milestone reached in the development of HUGIN Endurance following a record setting multi-week fully autonomous mission. After receiving a final navigation update from a pre-deployed transponder 10 hours into the dive, the 8-ton, 40 ft, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) operated completely independent of all human interaction and with no external navigation aiding for the duration of the sortie. This mission was conducted at depths ranging from 50m to 3400m and met the advertised 1,200 nautical mile range. Most impressive of all, was that HUGIN Endurance returned with a position error of approximately 0.02% of total distance traveled!

A team of oceanographers led by Schmidt Ocean Institute have discovered and mapped a new seamount on the Nazca Ridge in international waters, 900 miles off the coast of Chile. The Nazca Ridge, an underwater mountain chain, along with the adjoining Salas y Gómez Ridge, is one of several global locations under consideration for designation as a high seas marine protected area.

Greensea IQ, is proud to announce an extension to its prototype (Other Transaction Agreement) with the Defense Innovation Unit and U.S. Navy following the successful completion to Phase 3 of the Autonomous Expeditionary Maritime Response Vehicle (AEMRV) prototype last fall. The Rhode Island production facility will enable Anduril to increase production to 200 AUVs per year and create more than 100 jobs over the next five years. The factory announcement comes amid growing demand for Anduril’s AUVs, including an $18.6 million contract with the U.S. Navy.
