Energy Transition Hub Among New Features for SPE Offshore Europe 2019

06.08.2019

A new Energy Transition Hub will feature at SPE Offshore Europe 2019 from 3-6 September, with exhibition and conference space dedicated to the evolution of the oil and gas industry to a low carbon future.

Jonathan Heastie, Portfolio Director - Energy, Marine & Rotorcraft at Reed Exhibitions said: “The challenges and opportunities faced by the industry as it moves towards a low carbon future has been a foundation of this year’s theme ‘Breakthrough to excellence – our license to operate’ from the outset. The topic is comprehensively integrated into all aspects of the event from the opening plenary through multiple strands of the conference programme and exhibitor content. Support from the industry is such that we have now created a dedicated area with exhibition and theatre space where companies can showcase and discuss their activities in this area critical to a sustainable future.”

ABB, Aker Solutions, BHGE, BP, National Oilwell Varco, the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC), Oil & Gas UK (OGUK), Total, Wood and Worley are partners in the hub.

More than 36,000 people from 100 countries are expected to attend the first Offshore Europe being held in the new £333 million P&J Live event complex.

All the conference and meeting rooms have been booked in the new venue with four days of topical breakfasts, lunches and events being hosted by operators, service companies, industry organisations and international delegations. The conference programme includes an enlarged three parallel stream technical conference with 75 technical papers and a two- stream keynote programme with 73 senior executives discussing key industry issues in 12 two hour sessions.

The executive keynote address will be delivered by Patrick Pouyanné, President & CEO of Total. Wael Sawan, Shell’s Upstream Director; Doug Pferdehirt, TechnipFMC CEO; Karl Johnny Hersvik CEO of AkerBP and Hinda Gharbi, Schlumberger’s Executive Vice President Reservoir & Infrastructure will form the opening plenary panel, alongside global climate change leader Christiana Figueres, former UNFCCC Executive Secretary and Convenor of Mission 2020.

Another new feature is the one-day FT Oil & Gas Finance and Investment Forum which is exploring the role of finance in the industry. Sir Ian Wood will give the opening keynote on 4 September, taking to the stage with senior leaders from operators including BP, Equinor, Lundin Petroleum, Neptune Energy, Repsol and Siccar Point as well as representatives from the International Energy Industry (IEA), investment banks and advisers.

The first StartUp Village, organised by OGTC and social enterprise, Elevator, is sold-out with 60 start-up companies rotating every day on 16 pods. TechX has organised the theatre content which will consist of pitch battles between the start-up exhibitors.

The conference programme for the Late Life and Decommissioning Zone, organised by Decomm North Sea, the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Society for Underwater Technology (SUT), Subsea UK and Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC), is now complete. 28 companies will be exhibiting in the dedicated area.

The ENGenious Zone, being incorporated into SPE Offshore Europe 2019 after the success of the inaugural event in Aberdeen in 2018, is now sold-out with 17 exhibitors.
