Webtool Announces First Electro-Hydraulic Power Pack for Smaller ROVs at Offshore Europe 2017

Hydraulic cutting tools specialist, Webtool, is announcing the industry’s first battery-powered, high pressure hydraulic power pack, enabling smaller and inspection class ROVs access to the Webtool range of hydraulic wire rope and softline fibre rope cutters, at Offshore Europe 2017. In addition, the stand will feature the Webtool Cable Retrieval Tool (CRT200), developed in consultation with international certification body and classification society, DNVGL, and the Webtool portable, softline, deck emergency cutter for offshore vessels. The lightweight, battery powered power pack gives electric ROVs a Webtool cutting capability for softline ropes and guidewires. Called EHP350, it is designed to be used with Webtool wire rope and softline at water depths up to 1000m.

The world’s first* commercial onshore controlled ROV operations commenced at IKM Subsea headquarters in Bryne Norway 12th June.

IKM Subsea announced the award of a major ROV services contract for the fields Visund and Snorre B in the North Sea last August.

The contract provides for the testing, and installation of an electrical, permanently seabed installed RROV (Residential - ROV). The system will interface with IKMS’s Onshore Control Center via Tampnet, a dedicated fiber-based network system for the platforms in question. The systems are equally design to operate on the 4G mobile broadband system.

IMCA to hold two-day ROV seminar in Stavanger

Significant opportunities and challenges face the subsea industry - increasingly strident requirements to satisfy environmental legislation is one; the challenges of ROV utilisation in the growing renewables sector is another. The need to recruit and retain properly trained, competent people remains vital. These challenges and opportunities have led the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) to organise an ROV Seminar, with the theme ‘The future for remote systems and ROVs in the offshore construction industry’. Chaired by Graham Duncan of TechnipFMC, the IMCA ROV Committee Chairman, it will be held Tuesday 30 - Wednesday 31 May at Oceaneering International’s facility in Stavanger, Norway. The free-to-attend seminar is open to IMCA members and invited guests

IKM Subsea Singapore signs new contract with Solstad Offhore

Solstad Offshore in Singapore has recently awarded IKM Subsea Singapore a service contract to provide ROV services onboard on the DLB “Norce Endeavour” for construction support projects offshore in Thailand (hat-trick award from 2015). The barge will be mobilized in Singapore and will be working in the Gulf of Thailand for various clients. IKM Subsea will provide the Merlin WR 200 Work class ROV together with the required tooling’s to execute the project which consist of numerous platform and Pipelines installation coupled with dive support for Subsea tie-in and commissioning.

Rovco Dives into International Waters UK ROV Company Completes First Overseas Contracts

UK-based start-up Rovco has taken its firsts steps into international waters and made significant progress towards growing its global footprint following the completion of two subsea survey contracts in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The contract awards saw Rovco perform advanced subsea survey work in Fiji and Oman, utilising its state-of-the-art SubAtlantic Mojave, Seaeye Falcon and VideoRay Pro 4 ROVs. Launched in September, the company has also been awarded its first ROV consultancy project with one of the UK's leading engineering solutions providers and recently employed two new ROV pilots. It is now looking to appoint a chief technology officer as it continues to grow its UKCS position and gear up for further overseas expansion. With an increasing pipeline of work, the firm aims to become a leading ROV and inspection company within the next three years, with expertise and capacity to carry out underwater inspection projects across the globe. Currently tendering for work in the Gulf of Mexico, the Middle East and across the UK and Europe, Rovco is poised for further success both at home and further afield.

Eelume has successfully built and demonstrated the world’s first subsea snake-like robot

In December 2016, the Norwegian underwater robotics company Eelume AS has successfully built and demonstrated the world’s first snake-like underwater robot, constructed for offshore operations. The testing took place in deep waters of Trondheimsfjorden, and at the PREZIOSO Linjebygg Subsea Test Center in Trondheim.

Forum ROV simulator is a hit with visitors to California Science Center

Forum Energy Technologies, Inc. has delivered a custom built simulator to California Science Center, the largest hands-on science museum in the Western United States. The dual simulator station provides visitors with the experience of operating a subsea remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for themselves. The core technology used in the simulator is Forum’s proprietary VMAX™ ROV Simulation Software used by Forum’s ROV customers for training and evaluation of their ROV pilots. Forum’s development team have tailored the control interface within the software to allow the virtual ROV to be flown by visitors with no prior experience. The control consoles provided use the same robust hardware as Forum’s standard ROV control consoles. The system runs in both English and Spanish.
