Cellula Completes CRD100 Seafloor Drill Maintenance and Upgrade Program

Cellula Robotics Ltd. has successfully completed the mid-life maintenance and upgrade to Fukada Salvage and Marine Works Co., Ltd. (Fukada)’s Unicorn-1 Seafloor Drill, based on Cellula’s CRD100 Seafloor Drill. The upgrades, including improvements for increased automation and a new user interface, incorporates many lessons learnt from the last six years of offshore work, resulting in greater operational efficiency, functionality and lifespan of the drill.

She was built by Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway. Edda Freya is one of three Østensjø Rederi- vessels on contract with DeepOcean.

Gas and Condensate Discoveries to be Developed in the Norwegian Sea

Equinor and Halten East partners Vår Energi, Spirit Energy and Petoro have decided to invest about NOK 9 billion in the development of the area neighbouring to the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea. The area consists of six gas and condensate discoveries and option on another three prospects. The partnership today submits the plan for development and operation to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

Saipem Subsea Drone for Inspection of Shell and Petrobras Fields in Brazil

Saipem has been awarded a contract by Shell and Petrobras for the utilisation of its FlatFish subsea drone in two pilot projects encompassing the inspection campaigns of two ultra-deepwater fields offshore Brazil, operated respectively by the two energy companies. These two projects with Shell and Petrobras are pilots and fall within the framework of the research and development programme of ANP, the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels. The target is to qualify the drone to execute unmanned, vessel-free inspections to support the monitoring and maintenance campaigns of the subsea infrastructures.

The T500 Thruster is an underwater thruster that produces 16 kgf (35.5 lb) of thrust and can be used on remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs), unmanned surface vessels (USV), unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), and human-carrying vehicles like kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

New findings from the record-breaking Tongan volcanic eruption are “surprising and unexpected”, say scientists from New Zealand’s National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA). NIWA’s research vessel, RV Tangaroa, has returned from a month-long expedition as part of The Nippon Foundation-funded Tonga Eruption Seabed Mapping Project (TESMaP), where scientists were studying the effects of January’s eruption of Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai (HT – HH).

The Grey Zone’s complexity, ambiguity and importance is widely recognised by military planners and governments. Offensive operations in this space, if well planned and executed, can preclude categorical attribution whilst also avoiding a substantial military reprisal, and yet can potentially contribute significantly to the long-term strategic goals of the aggressor.
