OCEANS'17 MTS/IEEE Anchorage Call for Abstracts Submission Deadline: March 6, 2017

Dear MTS / IEEE OES Colleagues, On September 18-21, 2017, the OCEANS North America conference will be hosted in Alaska for the first time ever! On behalf of the Marine Technology Society and the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society, the OCEANS ’17 Anchorage Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is honored to invite your participation in this prestigious event. The venue for OCEANS'17 Anchorage is The Dena’ina Convention Center, a state-of-the-art facility located in the center of downtown Anchorage in close proximity to many great hotels, fine and casual dining, eclectic art galleries, and shopping. Within walking distance is the famous Tony Knowles Coastal Trail with its fantastic panoramic views of Cook Inlet and three majestic mountain ranges - Chugach, Alaska, and Talkeetna ranges. As we develop the full technical program in the coming months, we encourage you to submit a paper to share with the MTS/IEEE OES community and welcome your suggestions for workshops, tutorials or other activities. BP group chief executive Bob Dudley to lead opening plenary at SPE Offshore Europe 2017

BP group chief executive Bob Dudley will underline the value of the North Sea in the oil major’s global portfolio when he leads the opening plenary session at SPE Offshore Europe 2017 being held in Aberdeen from 5-8 September 2017. Dudley, who calls BP’s UK North Sea business one of its “crown jewels”, will address the hundreds of delegates expected to attend the opening plenary session at Europe’s foremost exploration and production (E&P) technical conference and exhibition. Other senior level plenary speakers will be announced in due course.

Ocean Business 2017 to host co-located Maritime Dual-use Events in Autonomous Systems and Satellite Applications

Subsea Expo Hailed Extraordinary Success as Industry Adapts to New Norm

Over 4,500 unique visitors made their way to Europe’s largest subsea event, Subsea Expo, held in Aberdeen this week. Delegates flew in from all corners of the world, including Brazil, China, Japan and Mozambique. The largest wholly-focused subsea event in Europe, Subsea Expo is organised by industry body Subsea UK. Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK, said: "The worst of the pain appears to be behind us and there are promising signs of recovery. The subsea opex market should remain relatively robust and there are signals that delayed projects may be getting back on track.

ACE Winches marks year of success in Asian and Oceania projects

ACE Winches, a leading global deck machinery specialist, is marking a year of project successes in Asia-Pacific at the Offshore South East Asia Conference and Exhibition, OSEA, taking place from 29 November – 2 December in Singapore. These projects are varied in scope and requirements, and include the mobilisation from the UK of a 200te and 400te Reel Drive System (RDS) package with operators and technicians. The RDS was used as part of a mooring line deployment on the Malikai Development, a deep-water project located in Malaysia. The company also supplied a 50te SWL 4-Track Tensioner to support operations on the Ichthys Gas Field Development. This field is located in Browse Basin, 220 kilometres offshore Western Australia and is the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia for 40 years.

The German Hydrographic Society (DHyG) to stage the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies’ (IFHS) 2016 symposium and exhibition in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany, from 8-10 November 2016. Venue will be the spacious Yachthafenresidenz Hohe Düne Hotel overlooking the Baltic Sea. 300 to 400 participants from all sectors of the hydrographic and related professions are envisaged and 48 exhibitors will provide their latest developments. Presentations in 14 sessions will cover the emerging topics ranging from the Perspectives of Hydrographic to Space Hydrography, covering strategic, practical and technical issues. All this accompanied by specialist workshops, on-water demonstrations and open ships.
