New Test Tank Complete at Phoenix Bayou Vista, LA Yard

Phoenix International Holdings, Inc. (Phoenix) is pleased to announce the completion of a new, modern test tank at our Bayou Vista, LA facility. This tank can be used for multiple subsea applications, such as underwater weld testing (both wet and dry habitat conditions), underwater Nondestructive Testing (NDT), and performance trials including underwater welding certifications and underwater tooling calibration and testing. It can be rented by clients to perform equipment or material trials in a controlled underwater environment prior to project execution.

Phoenix and U.S. Navy Recover MH-60S Helicopter From Record Depth

Phoenix International Holdings, Inc. (Phoenix), under the direction of the U.S. Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), located and recovered the fuselage of a downed MH-60S Seahawk helicopter in the Pacific, near Okinawa, Japan, from a record breaking depth of 19,075 feet. This equates to just over 3.6 miles beneath the sea and is 266 feet deeper than the previous salvage record, also set by Phoenix and SUPSALV during an operation in 2019. The helicopter was located in March of 2020 using the U.S. Navy’s Autonomous Underwater Vehicle “Trondheim” and then, a year later, Phoenix and SUPSALV returned to the site and recovered the helicopter on March 21st, 2021 using the U.S. Navy’s Remotely Operated Vehicle “CURV 21” and Fly Away Deep Ocean Salvage System. Both Trondheim and CURV 21 are rated to operate down to 20,000 feet.

Phoenx Divers Assist with Vessel in New Zealand

In the early hours of the 23rd of December, an urgent inquiry was received from a Phoenix client requesting a proposal and timeline for a dive team to mobilize immediately to international waters 12 miles from the city of Auckland, New Zealand. The situation was complicated as the vessel had undergone an underwater inspection in a previous port with the subsequent report and findings forwarded to the New Zealand Government for review prior to entry.

Phoenix and Supsalv Perform Deep Ocean Salvage of C-2A Aircraft

Phoenix International Holdings, Inc. (Phoenix), under the direction of the U.S. Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving, located and recovered the fuselage of a downed C2-A Greyhound aircraft from the depth of 18,809 feet using the deep ocean remotely operated vehicle CURV 21. The aircraft, which was lost in November 2017, was recovered at the request of Commander Pacific Fleet in order to facilitate the mishap investigation.
