Klein Marine Systems, a global leader in sonar technology has received a contract to provide Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) hardware technology to Saab Kockums AB (Linköping, Sweden). The sonar hardware will be integrated onto the Saab AUV62-MR, an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), designed for mine-countermeasures (MCM) missions. Saab has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the AUVs. The vehicle has the ability to quickly map and produce high-resolution sonar images of the seabed over large areas and detect various types of objects. The system provides the navy with the ability for covert reconnaissance as well as solve multiple tasks simultaneously with fewer resources and less risk to personnel.

Saab UK announces the official opening of its new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Fareham, Hampshire, marking a milestone in the company’s continued growth. The campus was opened by the Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP, Secretary of State for Business and Trade.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded a contract to a team led by Saab, Inc.’s newly formed accelerator, “Skapa by Saab”, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to contribute to the Autonomy Standards and Ideals with Military Operational Values (ASIMOV) program. The DARPA- ASIMOV program “aims to develop benchmarks to objectively and quantitatively measure the ethical difficulty of future autonomy use cases and readiness of autonomous systems to perform in those use cases within the context of military operational values”.

Saab has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for mine countermeasures missions.

Saab UK announces that the Seaeye SR20 eWROV, its most advanced fully-electric work-class remotely operated vehicle, has successfully completed inshore water testing. The testing was a key part of the verification and validation work package, testing against the specification, measuring performance, and stressing the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) as a system. In particular, the SR20 demonstrated its high degree of precise manoeuvrability and dexterity, using both manual joystick control and automation. This testing has paved the way for sea trials which will take place in spring 2025.

FMV, KTH and Saab extend their support for continued development of next-generation autonomous underwater vehicles through the research center SMaRC, Swedish Maritime Robotics Centre.

HBC Group, a leading provider of offshore inspection services, has recently purchased Saab’s Seaeye Cougar-XTi, a state-of-the-art remotely operated vehicle (ROV) known for its advanced capabilities.

Underwater Contracting (UCO), already owner of the world’s largest fleet of Saab Seaeye Falcon ROVs, has added to its pool through the purchase of five new machines to give it a total of 38 Falcon systems.

The MBARI long-range autonomous vehicle (LRAUV) is an innovative robot developed by MBARI engineers to meet the growing demand for technology that can safely and efficiently explore, map, and monitor ocean health. After a decade of extensive testing at sea by MBARI researchers, the LRAUV is now available to a global market for the first time, thanks to a commercial licensing agreement with Saab, Inc. The MBARI LRAUV will be available commercially as the Saab Tethys.

Owners of the world’s largest fleet of Saab UK’s Seaeye Falcons, Underwater Contracting (UCO), has ordered a further six Falcons, boosting their fleet to 33 vehicles.

Japan’s expanding offshore wind industry has added a further Seaeye Falcon underwater robot as a key operational resource for working in complex environments.

Saab has received an order for the autonomous underwater vehicle Sabertooth from the marine geophysical company PXGEO. The order value is SEK 620 million and deliveries will take place 2023-2025. The order includes more than 20 Sabertooth vehicles, which makes this the largest Sabertooth order to date. These will form part of PXGEO’s MantaRay solution for offshore seismic data acquisition and will be used for deployment and recovery of equipment during ocean bottom surveys.

LOTOS Petrobaltic, part of multi-energy concern ORLEN, has ordered Saab’s Seaeye Leopard work class robotic vehicle to service underwater infrastructure within Poland’s B3 and B8 oil fields in the Baltic Sea.

A £multi-million complete Saab Seaeye Leopard system has been supplied to the Spanish Navy for submarine escape and rescue, and underwater intervention. The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) acquired the Seaeye Leopard electric remotely operated robotic vehicle system for the Spanish Navy to fulfil the responsibilities of the International Submarine Escape and Rescue Liaison Office and provide diving support.

Ocean Dynamics has ordered a second, deeper-rated, Saab Seaeye Falcon for the inspection of instrumentation monitoring of the ocean around Canada’s northwest coast and First Nation coastal waters.

Saab UK’s Fareham-based Seaeye business hosted local MP, Suella Braverman, 24th February 2023, as she visited their new site that is bringing jobs and investment to Fareham.
