Saildrone Unveils the New Surveyor

11.03.2024
Saildrone is excited to unveil the first of a new generation of Surveyor-class unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), purpose-built for autonomous deep-water ocean mapping missions and maritime defense and security missions. Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Lisa Franchetti was on-site at Austal USA in Mobile, AL, on Monday to inspect the vehicle, ahead of these new USVs being tested under contract to the US Navy. A lighter, leaner design to optimize speed, power, and payload for long-range, long-endurance autonomous ocean mapping and maritime security.

NDBC Replaces Weather Buoy with Saildrone USV in National Marine Sanctuary

02.10.2023
NOAA's National Data Buoy Center replaced a moored coastal weather buoy in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary with a Saildrone Explorer to mitigate impacts caused by mooring material. Saildrone and NOAA's National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) announced today that Station 40612, a moored buoy located in Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, has been replaced with a Saildrone uncrewed surface vehicle (USV).

Saildrone Completes World-first Uncrewed Alaska Ocean Mapping Mission

08.03.2023
The Saildrone Surveyor, the world’s largest uncrewed ocean mapping vehicle, has completed a months-long survey around Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and off the coast of California as part of a multi-agency public-private partnership funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to address ocean exploration gaps in remote areas with uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs).

U.S. Navy Statement on Iranian Incident in Red Sea

02.09.2022
The U.S. Navy intercepted an Iranian warship that seized and detained two U.S. unmanned surface vessels operated by U.S. 5th Fleet in the Red Sea, Sept. 1, two days after Iran was unsuccessful in seizing a similar vessel in the Arabian Gulf. Jamaran (FFLG 76), an Islamic Republic of Iran Navy ship, seized two Saildrone Explorer unmanned surface vessels operating near one another in international waters before returning the vessels to the U.S. Navy the next day.

Saildrone is excited to announce the opening of its new Ocean Mapping Headquarters and Operations Center located in the Maritime and Defense Technology Hub (Hub), part of the St. Petersburg Innovation District in Florida. The Hub joins industry, government, and academic organizations under one roof with the goal of inspiring and supporting marine science and defense technology innovation.

Global Oceans and Saildrone have Signed a Strategic MOU

11.12.2021
Global Oceans and Saildrone have signed a strategic MOU to develop new opportunities for deploying Saildrone’s fleet of autonomous uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), including for deep seabed mapping to 7,000 meters, to support research and exploration projects operated from Global Oceans’ MARV ship platforms (Modular Adaptive Research Vessels).

Saildrone Closes $100 Million Series C Funding Round to Advance Ocean Intelligence Products

18.10.2021
Led by BOND, the financing will be used to scale Saildrone’s operations to meet the rapidly growing demand for critical ocean data. Saildrone, the emerging market leader in ocean data, ocean mapping, and maritime intelligence solutions, today announced the close of its $100M Series C round, bringing its total funding to $190M.

Inside the Eye of the Storm: Saildrone Collects Live Video of Category 4 Hurricane

01.10.2021
In a world first, a 23-foot Saildrone Explorer equipped with a specially designed “hurricane” wing has collected the first video footage of the extreme weather conditions inside a Category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean. The mission is a partnership between Saildrone and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Five vehicles were deployed to better understand the ocean processes that are occurring as hurricane intensity increases, which means collecting data immediately before and during a hurricane.

Ocean Drones Brave Hurricanes to Make Coastal Communities Safer

01.06.2021
Saildrone is announcing a new mission to deploy five uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) from the US Virgin Islands in August to gather key data throughout the 2021 Tropical Atlantic hurricane season. The USVs will be equipped with specially designed “hurricane wings” to enable them to operate in extreme conditions. Saildrones are the only USVs capable of collecting this data and are designed to withstand winds over 70 mph and waves over 10 feet, which occur during a hurricane weather system. The five saildrones will sail into the paths of hurricanes to provide valuable real-time observations for numerical hurricane prediction models and to collect new insights into how these large and destructive weather cells grow and intensify.

Saildrone Launches the World’s Largest and most Advanced Autonomous Surface Vehicle for Ocean Exploration.

15.01.2021
Saildrone, Inc. has launched a 72 foot (22 m) version of its uncrewed surface vehicles, known as saildrones. Powered by wind and solar energy, saildrones are capable of extreme-duration missions of up to 12 months in the open ocean.
