Wind-based Electrification will Drive Europe to Net Zero

Electrification is the most cost-effective way to decarbonise Europe’s economy according to a report from ETIPWind and WindEurope out today. Wind energy will lead the process: the EU sees it being half of Europe’s electricity by 2050. With the right investments in grids and technology, the combined rate of direct and indirect electrification will be 75% of Europe’s energy demand. And with further cost reductions in wind energy, a net-zero energy system will cost no more than our energy system costs today.

Maersk Drilling Awarded One-well Exploration Contract for Maersk Discoverer

Maersk Drilling has been awarded a one-well contract by CGX Resources Inc., operator and joint venture partner with Frontera Energy Guyana Corp, for the semi-submersible rig Maersk Discoverer to perform exploration drilling in the Corentyne Block offshore Guyana. The contract has an estimated duration of 75-85 days and is expected to commence in third quarter 2021, in direct continuation of the rig’s current work scope. The contract contains one firm-well in the Corentyne Block and one optional well for the Demerara Block. The optional well has an estimated duration of 40 days. Maersk Drilling and CGX are in discussions to add additional services and performance incentives to the scope.

Maersk Drilling Awarded four-well Drillship Contract with Shell in Malaysia

Maersk Drilling has secured a contract with Shell Malaysia for the 7th generation drillship Maersk Viking to drill four development wells at the Gumusut-Kakap project offshore Malaysia. The contract is expected to commence in December 2021, with an estimated duration of 150 days. The firm contract value is approximately USD 34m, including a mobilisation fee. The contract includes five additional one-well options for work offshore Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam.

Equinor has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft to explore ways to support the Northern Lights carbon capture and storage (CCS) project as a technology partner. Fugro has successfully completed the first deepwater autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) site survey for Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP). Ceri Powell, BSP’s Managing Director, delivered a congratulatory note acknowledging the quality of Fugro’s work and HSSE leadership shown throughout the campaign. BSP’s Project Lead Bilman Pardomuan Hutabarat commented: “This campaign was the first deepwater survey project for Shell in Brunei and its success will lead to many more deepwater programmes.”

Fugro completes deepwater AUV surveys for Shell in US Gulf of Mexico

Fugro has completed several high-resolution geophysical surveys in the US Gulf of Mexico for Shell International Exploration and Production Company. The project required data collection over multiple deepwater lease blocks in the greater Perdido and Mars development areas to support clearance of potential environmental, engineering, geological and archaeological hazards ahead of planned drilling activities.
