Energy major Shell has joined the Renewables for Subsea Power (RSP) collaborative project which is currently powering subsea equipment off the coast of Orkney through a combination of wave power and subsea energy storage.

Nauticus Robotics, a developer of ocean robots and artificial intelligence for autonomous services to the offshore industries, today announced its entry into a service contract with Shell. The initial scope of work includes inspection services on a Shell subsea field development in the Gulf of Mexico, and the contract contemplates visible future inspection service projects. The contract follows Nauticus’ successful qualification phase for autonomous methods of subsea operations for inspection services. The new contract acknowledges Nauticus’ successful transition to a fully operational offshore services provider.

TechnipFMC has been awarded a significant(1) engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract by Shell for the Jackdaw development, located in the United Kingdom North Sea.

Nauticus Robotics, Inc. , a Houston-area developer of subsea and surface robotic services using autonomy software, announced today it has entered into an agreement with Shell to advance to the qualification phase for a more efficient means of acquiring subsea integrity data utilizing Nauticus’ Aquanaut and Hydronaut robotic platforms. This collaboration will enable Shell to add an advanced tool to its subsea asset integrity management lineup with the potential to improve subsea operations. Shell and Nauticus will collaborate with the industry’s leading inspection tooling service providers, leveraging their expertise and technology to fully integrate into Nauticus’ robotic service solution.

Maersk Drilling has secured a contract from Shell UK Ltd for the provision of the harsh-environment jack-up rig Maersk Resilient for the drilling of the Pensacola well in the UK sector of the North Sea. The contract is expected to commence in the second half of 2022, in direct continuation of the rig’s previous work scope with Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM), with an estimated duration of approximately two months.

Saipem has been awarded a contract by Shell and Petrobras for the utilisation of its FlatFish subsea drone in two pilot projects encompassing the inspection campaigns of two ultra-deepwater fields offshore Brazil, operated respectively by the two energy companies. These two projects with Shell and Petrobras are pilots and fall within the framework of the research and development programme of ANP, the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels. The target is to qualify the drone to execute unmanned, vessel-free inspections to support the monitoring and maintenance campaigns of the subsea infrastructures.

Mayflower Wind, the developer of the offshore wind project in joint venture (50:50) between Shell New Energies and Ocean Winds, announced it was awarded a 400 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and its three biggest utilities as part of Massachusetts’ 83C III offshore wind energy procurement. Combined with its 804MW PPA from 83C II, Mayflower Wind will now provide more than 1200 MW of clean energy to electricity customers throughout Massachusetts and represents a first phase of its federal lease area.

C-Kore Systems recently signed a contract with TechnipFMC in Brazil for delivery of their sub-sea testing tools for the Mero 1 project, in which Petrobras (40%) acts as Operator of the Libra Consortium, formed by the companies Shell Brasil (20%), TotalEnergies (20%), CNODC (10%) and CNOOC Limited (10%), with Pré-sal Petróleo S.A. – PPSA, as the manager of the Production Sharing Contract. The C-Kore tools will be used to perform the subsea electrical verification of the umbilicals after installation.

Project partners RWE, Shell, Gasunie and Equinor signed a declaration of intent to further intensify their collaboration on the AquaSector project - the vision of the first large-scale German offshore hydrogen park. The project aims to demonstrate that in Germany offshore based hydrogen production enables an efficient, cost-effective and sustainable way to produce green hydrogen.

Maersk Supply Service has secured a major project contract for the Libra Consortium in Brazil concerning the pre-lay of the mooring system for a newbuild FPSO in Brazil. The project is integrating engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) work and will be carried out over 2021 and 2022.

Electrification is the most cost-effective way to decarbonise Europe’s economy according to a report from ETIPWind and WindEurope out today. Wind energy will lead the process: the EU sees it being half of Europe’s electricity by 2050. With the right investments in grids and technology, the combined rate of direct and indirect electrification will be 75% of Europe’s energy demand. And with further cost reductions in wind energy, a net-zero energy system will cost no more than our energy system costs today.

A pioneering system developed by marine technology company Sonardyne to study ocean floor movement has been recognised with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, the highest award a UK business can receive.

Maersk Drilling has been awarded a one-well contract by CGX Resources Inc., operator and joint venture partner with Frontera Energy Guyana Corp, for the semi-submersible rig Maersk Discoverer to perform exploration drilling in the Corentyne Block offshore Guyana. The contract has an estimated duration of 75-85 days and is expected to commence in third quarter 2021, in direct continuation of the rig’s current work scope. The contract contains one firm-well in the Corentyne Block and one optional well for the Demerara Block. The optional well has an estimated duration of 40 days. Maersk Drilling and CGX are in discussions to add additional services and performance incentives to the scope.

Fugro is providing positioning and construction support services for Jumbo Maritime, a leading offshore installation contractor, on the Mero 1 deepwater field development located approximately 180 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Maersk Drilling has secured a contract with Shell Malaysia for the 7th generation drillship Maersk Viking to drill four development wells at the Gumusut-Kakap project offshore Malaysia. The contract is expected to commence in December 2021, with an estimated duration of 150 days. The firm contract value is approximately USD 34m, including a mobilisation fee. The contract includes five additional one-well options for work offshore Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam.
