Underwater positioning technology from Sonardyne Inc. has been chosen by leading integrated subsea and offshore solutions provider, Unique Group, to enhance the company’s offering for its energy sector customers working in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The owners of marine technology specialist Sonardyne have formed a new parent company to increase the breadth and capabilities available to customers across the organisation’s growing family of independent subsidiaries.

Underwater diver detection sonar technology from Sonardyne Inc. has been chosen by yacht security specialist Frankentek Inc. for their latest new-build superyacht surveillance and protection project.

Leading offshore drilling contractor, Noble Corporation plc, has selected acoustically-aided inertial navigation technology from Sonardyne Inc., Houston, for its ultra-deep water drillship Noble Globetrotter I. The Marksman DP-INS system is being used to provide a high integrity, independent subsea position reference for the vessel’s GE DP3 dynamic positioning (DP) system as it drills exploration wells in water depths up to 10,000 feet.

Sonardyne Inc., Houston, today announced it has supplied acoustically-aided inertial navigation technology to offshore engineering, procurement, construction and installation company, McDermott International, Inc., for its Lay Vessel 108 (LV 108). The Ranger 2 Pro DP-INS system, the highest specification available from Sonardyne, is being used to support touchdown monitoring surveys of submarine cables, umbilicals and pipelines and as an independent position reference for the LV 108’s Kongsberg dynamic positioning (DP) system.

Houston-based subsea technology company, Sonardyne Inc., has announced that its deep water acoustic positioning system, Ranger 2 USBL, has been selected for the U.S Navy’s new oceanographic research vessel, R/V Neil Armstrong. The ship is operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) on behalf of the Navy and replaces the recently retired R/V Knorr vessel which had been in operation since 1970.

Sonardyne Inc., Houston, has received an order to supply five Ranger 2 Pro USBL tracking systems to survey and mapping specialists C&C Technologies, Inc. – a subsidiary of Oceaneering International, Inc. By upgrading to the latest standard of acoustic positioning technology, C&C Technologies will now benefit from Ranger 2 Pro’s ability to track multiple subsea targets at greater speeds, over longer ranges, and with the highest level of positioning accuracy.

ROV tracking technology supplied by Sonardyne Inc. in Houston to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) provided spectacular performance during an expedition to study recently discovered deep sea hydrothermal vents in the Gulf of California.
