Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ (KHI) has chosen a suite of subsea navigation, positioning and communications technologies from marine energy, defence and science company Sonardyne to navigate, track and control its first commercial SPICE autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).

Quincy, Massachusetts, based underwater robotics innovator Dive Technologies has chosen a complete suite of Sonardyne technologies for navigation, tracking and control of its large displacement DIVE-LD autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) programme.

Underwater technology provider Sonardyne International Ltd. has announced important new additions to its 2020 product line-up, all designed to play a role in delivering users’ data from the seabed to the shore.

Innova AS, a specialist subsea engineering and technology company based in Norway, has selected acoustic and inertial navigation technology from Sonardyne International Ltd., for two new in-field resident ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) being built in the country. Each ROV will be installed with a co-housed Sonardyne SPRINT Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Syrinx Doppler Velocity Log (DVLs) to provide tightly coupled navigation data that will support a wide variety of survey and inspection missions in water depths up to 4,000 metres. The contract was announced on the opening day of the Seabed Mapping and Inspection conference which is taking place this week in Geilo, Norway (8th-10th February). The two ROVs are being built by IKM Technology, this time for delivery to IKM Subsea, who has contracted Innova to supply various on-board sensors, including the navigation system, as part of the vehicle’s development programme.

Hydrographic survey and diving equipment specialists, Unique Group, has selected subsea vehicle positioning and navigation technology from Sonardyne International Ltd, to add to its expanding equipment rental pool. The SPRINT Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) and Syrinx Doppler Velocity Logs (DVLs) will be held at the company’s regional headquarters in Aberdeen and made available to support survey and construction projects using ROVs and AUVs in water depths up to 4,000 metres.

Sonardyne International Ltd., UK, has announced that Subsea Technology and Rentals Ltd (STR), a multi-disciplinary technology expert specialising in the design, production and rental of innovative marine survey equipment, has become the first company to invest in their new ‘Syrinx’ Doppler Velocity Log (DVL). The order for two 4,000 metre depth rated units was placed at the recent Ocean Business exhibition in Southampton in response to demands from STR’s customers globally for a DVL that is capable of providing high integrity, high performance navigation over a wide range of altitudes and seabed types.
