Offshore Innovators Team benefits from TechnipFMC Subsea School

29.04.2019

TechnipFMC’s Subsea School was delivered for the first time in Trinidad & Tobago last month to the Offshore Innovators ROV Team. This world-class training was hosted by Subsea Specialist Ltd at the Deepwater Hub in Chaguaramas, Trinidad. Fourteen team members, ranging from ROV Pilot/Technician to ROV Superintendent, were exposed to the manufacturers insight into their subsea technology.

The Subsea School is TechnipFMC’s global training program developed specially for everyone who is new to the subsea industry, or wants to have a deeper basic knowledge about the offshore operations and equipment used in the global subsea industry. The syllabus gives the participant good knowledge about all aspects with respect to the different disciplines associated with this type of offshore industry.

Subsea Specialist Ltd owns and operates a TechnipFMC Schilling HD ROV simulator which is available to the public for individual contractors and companies to utilize for training and simulation purposes. This advanced technology, housed at the Deepwater Hub, supports the TechnipFMC Subsea School training by providing a realistic platform for subsea personnel to experience the installation and intervention of the subsea assets they are exposed to in the courseware.

TechnipFMC and Shell, through their legacy companies FMC and British Gas, were responsible for the first Subsea Trees ever to be installed in Trinidad. Today, there are more TechnipFMC Subsea Trees operating in Trinidad than any other manufacturer. The Offshore Innovators ROV team has been heavily involved in the maintenance and intervention of these Trees over the years supporting various Subsea Contractors.

Regionally, the Offshore Innovators ROV team is focused on extending their support to neighboring Guyana where 17 TechnipFMC Subsea Trees will be installed on the ExxonMobil Liza-1 project. Training and Familiarization with the modern version of this equipment is key to ensuring safe and efficient operations when the Trinidadian and Guyanese ROV personnel support the International Subsea Contractors operations.

“We are proud to have our Team of ROV personnel training with the TechnipFMC Subsea School here in Trinidad. We acknowledge that to perform at the highest level we must arm our team members with the best possible equipment and training available. Partnering with Subsea Specialist Ltd to utilize the Deepwater Hub facility in Chaguaramas keeps us close to the pulse of the regional subsea industry and offers our operation a significant competitive advantage.” Dylan Galt, Operations Manager, Offshore Innovators Ltd.
