The rise of ‘ROV DP’, the capability to hold an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) stationary in the water column, has led to an increase in the sharing of ROV-mounted sensors, for ROV positioning, imaging and survey purposes. A workshop, organised by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) during Oceanology International 2016 (OI2016), will discuss the opportunities and challenges arising from this shared use of sensors and consider the future for this developing field of technologies.

Harkand wins Apache North Sea subsea installation campaign

ORGANISERS of the world’s only conference focused on safety and competency in the oil and gas industry have announced this year’s event is moving from the Middle East to Malaysia. The seventh annual OPITO Safety and Competence Conference - OSCC 2016 - will take place in Kuala Lumpur on 16th November. The one-day event is expected to attract over international 450 delegates and 30 exhibitors.

Fugro deploys new-build Fugro Aquarius for Petrobras contract

Fugro has been awarded an inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) contract by Petrobras in Brazil. Under the contract Fugro will deploy its new 83-metre ROV support vessel, Fugro Aquarius, for the IRM activities. The contract duration is one year with an option for an additional year.

To be included in the list, companies needed to show consistent revenue growth over a minimum of three years, significantly outperforming their industry peers.

Novacavi reports engagement in a pilot project for ENI platforms subsidence monitoring in Adriatic Sea

Novacavi is pleased to announce its engagement in a pilot project for ENI (Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi – National Oil Board) platforms subsidence monitoring in Adriatic Sea. Novacavi has been called in to provide a specially designed custom pressure resistant cable for a new submarine hydraulic digital profile meter to be laid on the seabed close to a gas extracting platform. Installation of this monitoring system may reach a depth of 100m in order to survey and to take permanent readings of the subsidence cone caused by gas extraction.

IKM Subsea signs new multi-year frame agreement with Nexans Norway AS

Nexans Norway and IKM Subsea have come to an agreement to extend the current ROV services contracts on board the C/S Nexans Skagerrak. The contract value including options is 75 million NOK and duration term is firm for 3 years + 2 yearly options. IKM Subsea’s ROV services will be integrated with iSurvey’s positioning and monitoring service during cable lay and trenching operations.

Arctic shipping routes may be open by 2080

Commercial summer shipping across the North Pole may be possible by the end of the century, with the first potential crossings feasible for ice-strengthened ships around 2040. According to this study, by scientists at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Arctic shipping could potentially account for as much as 10% of all cargo transported between Europe and the Pacific. It will help supply communities and industries along the coasts of Siberia and Canada.

UK based C-Kore Systems delivered their subsea monitoring units to PTTEP Australasia for use on the Subsea Equipment Australian Reliability (SEAR) JIP. The SEAR JIP was formed to meet the challenging subsea conditions faced in Australian waters. C-Kore’s subsea monitoring technology provides quick and reliable information on the electrical condition of subsea assets, eliminating the use of down-lines or the requirement to bring the equipment topside to test.
